Straight down the line - wrinkle reduction and facial fillers explained

Inevitably the passing of time and our busy lives can take their toll on our bodies, and whilst wrinkles and fine lines are natural, not everybody feels ready to accept them when they first appear! Modern science has developed safe and effective solutions, in the form of injectable treatments by accredited experts such as those at DentalCareXtra, which can help hold Mother Nature at bay.

How can I reduce my wrinkles?

Wrinkles develop as the skin's elasticity and volume decreases - a result of facial muscles contracting repeatedly over time, most commonly seen around the eyes and mouth. Relaxing these muscles has the effect of smoothing out the skin, and this is best achieved by use of professionally applied injectables. Botox is well known as one such treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, but its effects can sometimes be a bit too dramatic! Here at DentalCareXtra we use Dysport®, which gives a softer and more subtle result. It also allows treatment of a wider area as its smaller molecules allow for greater coverage.

The procedure involves only minimal discomfort, so local anaesthetics are generally not needed and you can resume normal life immediately afterwards.

What are facial fillers, and could they work for me?

Lip and facial fillers have become increasingly popular in recent years and the rigorous science behind them means that they are safe and reliable when placed by qualified experts such as those at DentalCareXtra. Fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid (often shortened to HA), a substance that's found naturally in the skin (so it isn't rejected by your body), which can hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. We use Teosyal, which breaks down naturally over time so the effects are not permanent - to maintain the look you'll need to have further treatment every three to six months.
